The highly tuned 302/290 HP V-8 engine features a Winters aluminum intake and 4-barrel carburetor, its RPM note thundering the dual-exhaust system. A 4-speed manual transmission kept one’s arm active in traffic, with power steering and power brakes to allow it to go exactly where you intended. Displacement reached a zenith in 1970, and no muscle-car signified GM’s just-softened stance on that like the LS6-powered SS454 Chevelle. Heralded in the media and notorious on Main Street, their short appearance made a lasting impression. This car, in Cranberry Red with white vinyl top, features the high-compression 454/450 HP V-8 engine, rated at 500 lb-ft of torque. A Holley 4-barrel carburetor atop the aluminum intake manifold makes it roar, with an M22 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt 4.10 Positraction differential taking the power. Highway prowess came from the F41 suspension and power brakes with front discs. An ivory bench-seat interior features the AM radio with 8-track player, sport steering wheel and ball-knob floor shifter. Other décor outside includes the white sport stripes, SS454 emblems, functional Cowl Induction hood with hold-down pins, 14x6-inch SS wheels and Firestone Wide Oval raised white-letter tires. Compression ratios fell in 1971, making this model year the one to remember and certainly the one to own.
