Introduced in April 1969 as Ford’s answer to the Camaro Z28, the Boss 302 also homologated a Cleveland-head 302 for Trans Am racing. The midyear debut limited sales of the first-year model to only 1,628. This 1969 Boss 302 is one of just 194 delivered in Wimbledon White with the Larry Shinoda-designed blackout treatment, C-shaped side stripes and front chin spoiler. Like all Boss 302s, the SportsRoof is equipped with the Mustang’s best high-performance equipment, like 4-speed transmission, 9-inch rear end, Competition Suspension with staggered rear shocks, power brakes with front discs and 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires. Few options were offered for 1969, but this one has several, including 3.91 Traction-Lok axle, power steering, blue interior, fold-down rear seat, adjustable rear wing and rear window slats. The Boss 302 engine with 290 HP is nicely detailed with the correct decals and factory emissions system.

Contrary to common belief, all 1966 Shelby GT350s built for Hertz Rent-A-Car were not black with gold stripes. True, after Hertz requested 1,000 GT350s for its Sports Car Club program, most were painted in the Hertz corporate colors; however, 244 of the gold-striped Shelbys were delivered in red, white, blue or green, including this GT350H, one of 60 painted in Candy Apple Red. Per the Shelby Registry, SFM6S1005 was shipped to Riesmeyer Motor Co. in Missouri for dealer prep prior to delivery to Hertz in St. Louis. Like all 1966 Shelby Mustangs, it is equipped with the 289/306 HP High Performance engine, traction bars, hood and side scoops, plexiglass C-pillar windows and identifying rocker-panel stripes. The black bucket-seat interior includes Shelby’s competition seat belts and dash-mounted 9,000 RPM tachometer. This rare GT350H has also been updated with a 4-speed manual transmission and Shelby 10-spoke aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich T/A Radial tires.

Here is an unrestored example of the 1968 Mustang hardtops that were factory built for Southern California Ford dealers. Inspired by Shelby’s “Little Red” GT500 prototype, the California Special was essentially a low-cost coupe dressed up with Shelby-style fiberglass components that included an integrated rear spoiler, rear panel with 1965 Thunderbird tail lights, and side scoops. The GT/CS package also added a blackout grille with rectangular fog lamps, louvered hood, body-side and rear-deck stripes, pop-off gas cap and chrome script emblems. Only 4,117 California Specials were produced, most powered by a 6-cylinder or base 2-barrel 289 CI V-8. However, this Lime Gold example is equipped with the J-code 302, a 4-barrel small-block that produces 250 HP. The unrestored California Special is also optioned with the C4 automatic transmission, Ivy Gold interior, factory air conditioning, styled steel wheels, power steering and power front disc brakes.
