This 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was the subject of a body-off restoration in 2012. Its rebuilt, matching-numbers 427/400 HP L68 V-8 engine with three 2-barrel carburetors feeds power through a 4-speed manual transmission out to a Positraction rear end. Finished in Rally Red with a black stinger hood and matching interior, the car is fitted with a side-exit exhaust system, an AM/FM radio, shoulder belts, headrests, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, an in-dash clock and Rally wheels with redline tires. Accompanied by an NCRS Shipping Data Report and a tank sticker, this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has both a hardtop and a soft top.
By 1964, Chevrolet knew the Corvette needed to become more competitive, especially against the likes of the Shelby Cobra. While the Jaguar E-Type was a vicious performance car, the Cobra was on another level, particularly with the new 427 CI V-8. However, Chevrolet knew it had an advantage in crafting a more civilized sports car that could hang onto the Cobra.
With this in mind, 1965 Corvette buyers could opt for a massive 396/425 HP V-8 engine. While it was impressive, it was a stopgap for the even more potent 427 CI V-8 set to debut for 1966. Available with 390 or 425 HP, the magic was in the torque band, which was much higher and more linear than that of the 396. For 1967, the 427 was offered with 400 or 435 HP. This was the engine that made the Corvette entirely competitive against the Cobra and reasserted it as a world-class performance car. Texto da Mecum.
