When Ford pulled out of racing in the summer of 1970, there was no longer a need to build a race-specific small-block like the Boss 302. Freed from the cubic-inch limitation of Trans Am, Ford put more cubic inches under the canted-valve 4-barrel Cleveland heads to create the 1971 Boss 351, a SportsRoof-only muscle car that is arguably the best of the legendary Boss Mustangs. This Boss 351 from the Kirt Fryer 1971 Mustang Collection is one of only three produced in Calypso Coral, a special-order paint color for 1971. Of the three, it is the only one with a white interior. As a very original car, the Boss 351 is equipped with its factory original paint, interior, matching-numbers engine, 4-speed transmission and 9-inch rear end. A two-page window sticker documents the extensive factory options, including rarely seen power windows. With the 1971 Boss 351, Ford replaced the previous year’s Boss 302 by putting sufficient cubic inches under the large-port, staggered-valve Cleveland heads, improving torque to give the mid-displacement engine a boost down low while also increasing horsepower to 330. The Boss 351 was the total performance package in the final year of the Boss Mustangs. Based on the 351 Cleveland, the Boss engine came with a 4-bolt main-bearing block, solid-lifter camshaft and a 750 CFM Autolite 4-barrel carb on a unique aluminum intake manifold. Functional Ram Air through the NACA-duct hood was standard equipment, along with a Hurst shifter, Traction-Lok differential with 3.91 gearing, and Competition Suspension with 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels and staggered rear shocks to dampen wheel hop during hard acceleration. Externally, “hockey-stick” side stripes, full hood blackout, a black rear panel and subtle “Boss 351 Mustang” block-lettering decals on the front fenders and trunk lid differentiated the Boss from the Mach 1. This highly original Boss 351 comes with its window sticker and the build sheet that verifies the special paint code.

Shipped new from Yenko Chevrolet in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to Grossman Chevrolet in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this 1969 Yenko Super Camaro is one of 201 produced that year. Dealer Principal Don Yenko began converting Camaros to his own specifications in 1967, including swapping in the Corvette-sourced L72 427 CI engine. Packed with a forged bottom end, forged aluminum 11.0:1 pistons, a high-lift, solid-lifter cam and a Holley 800 CFM 4-barrel on a high-rise aluminum intake, it was a seriously potent engine rated at 425 HP and it was central to the Yenko’s brutish character. However, the cost of these conversions was considerable, and selling the leftover L78 blocks was not an easy task, so in 1969, Yenko turned to Chevrolet Product Promotions Manager Vince Piggins, who shepherded Yenko’s request for factory-built 427-powered Camaros through the Central Office Production Order system. By 1969, Yenko had assembled a network of 36 dealers to sell his Super Car conversions, and it is believed that he was responsible for specifying the two COPO orders that constitute the full-bore Yenko Super Camaro package. First was COPO 9561, which, in addition to the L72 427/425 HP engine, specified a cowl-induction hood, curved-neck four-core radiator and F41 performance suspension. The COPO 9737 Sports Car Conversion Package added power front disc brakes, a 13/16-inch front sway bar, BE-code special heavy-duty 4.10 Positraction rear end, 15x7-inch wheels and a 140 MPH speedometer. Buyers also had a choice of a 400 Turbo 3-speed automatic or the Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed transmission in this exceptional example. The subject of a body-off restoration in 2004, the car is brightly finished in Daytona Yellow with a black vinyl roof and black standard interior. Because most Yenko Camaros were raced as intended, engine attrition was common and finding one such as this with the original factory-installed drivetrain intact is a true rarity. Listed in the Yenko Registry, this rare 1969 Yenko Super Camaro is offered with COPO Connection paperwork.

The small “428” engine-displacement emblems on the front fenders tell you what you need to know about this 1968 Torino GT fastback. When Ford introduced the 428 Cobra Jet engine in April 1968, the CJ-powered Mustang got the glory after its much-publicized Super Stock victory at the NHRA Winternationals. Less known is the fact that Ford’s new muscle-car engine was also available as a non-Ram Air R-code in Fairlane/Torinos and Mercury Montegos. Due to the late model-year introduction, only a handful of Cobra Jets found their way into 1968 Fords, including just 661 for the Torino GT according to Marti’s database. This 1968 Torino GT is one of those rare supercars. The subject of a nut-and-bolt restoration to like-new condition, the CJ Torino comes with restoration receipts, the original build sheet and a Deluxe Marti Report, which confirms its Cobra Jet pedigree and documents that it was sold new at Carey Paul Ford in Atlanta. Highland Green with a Nugget Gold bench-seat interior, the Torino GT is also equipped with a column-shift C6 automatic transmission, 9-inch rear axle with limited-slip 3.50 gears, power steering, power front disc brakes and an AM radio. Restyled for 1968, the Fairlane also gained a Torino subseries as an upscale version of Ford’s popular intermediate. As a GT model, this 1968 Cobra Jet Torino is identified by GT C-stripe decals and styled steel wheels with GT center caps. At the beginning of the 1968 model year, the 390 was the top engine for the Fairlane/Torino. That changed at midyear with the addition of the 428 Cobra Jet, an updated Police Interceptor big-block with low-riser 427 heads, 390 GT camshaft, Holley 735 CFM 4-barrel carburetor and low-restriction exhaust manifolds for a purposefully underrated 335 HP. CJ-powered Torinos also came with stiffer springs and shocks, and a larger front sway bar as well.
