Primeiros Automóveis de Montevidéu, Uruguai

Primeiros Automóveis de Montevidéu, Uruguai

Fotografia

Fremont Bridge, Portland, Oregon, Estados Unidos

The Fremont Bridge is a steel tied-arch bridge over the Willamette River located in Portland, Oregon, United States. It carries Interstate 405 and US 30 traffic between downtown and North Portland where it intersects with Interstate 5. It has the longest main span of any bridge in Oregon and is the second longest tied-arch bridge in the world (after Caiyuanba Bridge across the Yangtze RiverChina). The bridge was designed by Parsons, Brinckerhoff, Quade and Douglas, and built by Murphy Pacific Corporation.
The bridge has two decks carrying vehicular traffic, each with four lanes. The upper deck is signed westbound on US 30 and southbound on I-405. The lower deck is signed eastbound on US 30 and northbound on I-405.
Due to the public's dissatisfaction with the appearance of the Marquam Bridge, the Portland Art Commission was invited to participate in the design process of the Fremont. The improvement in visual quality resulted in a bridge that was nearly six times as expensive as the purposely economical Marquam Bridge. Designers modeled the bridge after the original 1964 Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The steel tie-girder (I-beam) is 18-feet tall and 50-in wide. On October 28, 1971, while still under construction, a six-foot-long crack was found on the west span of this girder that required a $5.5 million redesign and repair. The ramps and approaches are steel box girders. If the lanes of the bridge were placed end-to-end, there are 3.27 lane-miles on the arch bridge and 14.12 lane-miles on the ramps and approaches.
The center span of the bridge, where the rib of the arch is above the deck, is 902 feet long. It was fabricated in California then assembled at Swan Island, 1.7 miles (2.7 km) downstream. After assembly it was floated on a barge the 1.7 mile trip to the construction site. On March 16, 1973, the 6,000-ton steel arch span was lifted 170 ft (52 m) using 32 hydraulic jacks. At the time, it was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the heaviest lift ever completed.
The bridge was opened on November 15, 1973, at a final cost of $82 million, most of which was financed by the Federal Highway Administration. In 1976, an American flag and an Oregon flag were added atop the structure as part of the bicentennial celebration for the United States. The flags were installed with the use of a helicopter. The 15-by-25-foot (4.6 m × 7.6 m) flags are attached to 50-foot (15 m) tall flagpoles at the crest of the arches.
The bridge as well as Portland's associated Fremont Street were named for John C. Fremont (1813–1890). Fremont was an early explorer of the Oregon Country. He served in the United States Army at the time as a Captain and later promoted to General. In 1856, he ran for president, but was defeated by James Buchanan.

This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is practically every Camaro fan’s unrealized dream, an unrestored, pristine, low-mileage example that retains high originality, most importantly its matching-numbers 302/290 HP small-block V-8 engine. The Z28 was created for the sole purpose of winning the SCCA’s new Trans Am Championship for cars under 305 CI. Because the smallest Camaro V-8 was the 327, Chevrolet Racing Manager Vince Piggins took a page from every Chevrolet rodder’s handbook; he had a 283-spec crankshaft installed in a 327 block. The resulting short stroke reduced piston speed, allowing for higher peak RPM, and held displacement to 302 CI. The rest followed a well-established formula: a forged rotating assembly, a solid-lifter cam actuating oversized valves in high-flow heads, and a cowl-induction-fed Holley 4-barrel on a voluminous dual-plane aluminum intake manifold. The 302 was the main ingredient in a comprehensive package that included special heavy-duty suspension, quick steering, heavy-duty cooling, dual exhaust, a sturdy 4-speed and a 12-bolt rear end to handle the 302’s output. It was dubbed RPO Z28, and Chevrolet General Manager Pete Estes gave it his blessing after Piggins demonstrated its charms on the way to an executive lunch. Roger Penske’s Sunoco-sponsored Z28 won the Trans Am Championship for the second time when this 1969 Z28 first hit the streets, forever associating the Z28 with dominance on both road and track. Finished in attractive Rallye Green paint and contrasting white stripes, its matching-numbers 302/290 HP V-8 incorporates a Winters aluminum intake manifold and Holley 4-barrel carburetor, and it further benefits from tube headers and dual exhaust. Adding to the Z28’s standard 4-speed, front disc brakes, rear bumper guards and Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires on Rally wheels are optional power steering, front and rear spoilers, a center console with U17 Special Instruments, tachometer and a pushbutton AM radio. A well-cared-for example, it easily qualifies as among the most desirable of the unrestored 1969 vintage.

Introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the SLS was the first car built from scratch by AMG, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house performance division. Production ran from 2011 to 2015, and the car marked a major step in design and production at both Mercedes-Benz and AMG. Featuring gullwing doors and an aluminum space frame, the SLS was seen as the successor to the 300SL from the 1950s, as evidenced by the overall profile, placement of the exterior door handles, grille design, tail lights and many more subtle details. It was quicker, faster and lighter than the outgoing Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which was an accomplishment in and of itself considering the engineering and expense bestowed upon the SLR. This 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has only covered 802 miles since new. Powered by the 6.3L/563 HP V-8 engine and AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sport transaxle, the engines are hand built and use a dry-sump lubrication system with external reservoir and were considered to be the most powerful, naturally aspirated production V-8 engine at the time. Massive, 6-piston front and 4-piston rear compound disc brakes keep the car in check, while speed-sensitive power steering makes the car easy to drive in traffic and at speed. Mercedes-Benz took great strides to ensure the SLS was a safely engineered car, installing eight airbags, ABS, a three-stage electronic stability program, a safety cell and explosive bolts to remove the doors in the event of a rollover collision among other defenses. This one is equipped very nicely with an AMG sport steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, die-cast aluminum trim, Keyless Go, Parktronic, power folding mirrors, headlamp-washing system, heated and power-adjustable seats with memory feature, dual-zone automatic climate control, GPS navigation, a 40 GB hard drive, enhanced voice-control system, a rear-view camera, LED daytime running lights, Bi-Xenon headlamps and Alcantara upholstery for the headliner, door trim and rear parcel shelf. Presented in silver exterior paint, a bright red interior with exquisite details lends drama and excitement to an exciting car.

After the dazzling excesses reached their flamboyant apex with the outlandish fins of the 1959 Cadillac line, the 1960 Cadillacs were introduced with a cleaner, yet still striking design. Though the iconic tail fins were only about an inch shorter than the peak height of the previous year, they used a more subtle bladed tail-lamp design that blended into the trailing edge of the fin, as opposed to the previously utilized twin “bullets” that protruded from the sides. Other design upgrades included a revised full-width grille and the elimination of the pointed bumper guards seen before. These revisions, as well as the rest of the styling updates, made for a cleaner design that, while restrained compared to what had come before, was still very much “the life of the party.” The Eldorado was the top-level passenger-car series and was divided into three subseries: the Eldorado Seville two-door hardtop, the Eldorado Brougham and the Eldorado Biarritz convertible. These machines featured bright lower body-sill trim that extended into the fender skirts, specific Eldorado badging and an upgraded level of standard equipment, including remote-control trunk lock, six-way power bench front seat, radio with antenna and rear speaker, air suspension and power door locks, among other exclusive features. This beautifully restored 1960 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible is an exquisite example of this rare breed of automobile. It is one of just 1,285 produced that year and features the 390/345 HP Cadillac V-8 with tri-power induction, Hydra-Matic transmission, power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, power windows and vent windows, power antenna, Autronic Eye (automatic headlamp high-beam dimmer), cruise control and clock. This car was restored in Olympic White and features a rare red interior with bucket seats, correct wheels and fluted wheel discs, wide whitewall tires and a new period-correct 12-volt battery.
