Introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the SLS was the first car built from scratch by AMG, Mercedes-Benz’s in-house performance division. Production ran from 2011 to 2015, and the car marked a major step in design and production at both Mercedes-Benz and AMG. Featuring gullwing doors and an aluminum space frame, the SLS was seen as the successor to the 300SL from the 1950s, as evidenced by the overall profile, placement of the exterior door handles, grille design, tail lights and many more subtle details. It was quicker, faster and lighter than the outgoing Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, which was an accomplishment in and of itself considering the engineering and expense bestowed upon the SLR. This 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has only covered 802 miles since new. Powered by the 6.3L/563 HP V-8 engine and AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed sport transaxle, the engines are hand built and use a dry-sump lubrication system with external reservoir and were considered to be the most powerful, naturally aspirated production V-8 engine at the time. Massive, 6-piston front and 4-piston rear compound disc brakes keep the car in check, while speed-sensitive power steering makes the car easy to drive in traffic and at speed. Mercedes-Benz took great strides to ensure the SLS was a safely engineered car, installing eight airbags, ABS, a three-stage electronic stability program, a safety cell and explosive bolts to remove the doors in the event of a rollover collision among other defenses. This one is equipped very nicely with an AMG sport steering wheel with aluminum shift paddles, die-cast aluminum trim, Keyless Go, Parktronic, power folding mirrors, headlamp-washing system, heated and power-adjustable seats with memory feature, dual-zone automatic climate control, GPS navigation, a 40 GB hard drive, enhanced voice-control system, a rear-view camera, LED daytime running lights, Bi-Xenon headlamps and Alcantara upholstery for the headliner, door trim and rear parcel shelf. Presented in silver exterior paint, a bright red interior with exquisite details lends drama and excitement to an exciting car.
