The M4 CSL was built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW’s M division. Limited to 1,000 examples—just 150 of which were sold in its native Germany—the two-seat coupé featured a raft of weight-saving measures that shaved 100 kilograms from the kerb weight of its Competition sibling. A carbon fibre reinforced plastic bonnet and boot lid aided the cause along with reduced sound insulation and a lightweight titanium exhaust, complementing a high specification that included carbon-ceramic disc brakes and an E46 CSL-style integrated rear spoiler.
The M4’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six engine was also tuned for an additional 39 horsepower, taking total power output to 550 horsepower. Aided by a strict diet, the M4 CSL is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. The improvements were best demonstrated during a hot lap of the fearsome Nürburgring, where the CSL shaved eight seconds from the lap time of its M4 GTS sister model.
Finished in Frozen Brooklyn Grey over black, this German-market example was first registered on 22 August 2022 in the name of the consigning seller, with whom it has since remained. The all-important running-in service was carried out on 14 September 2022, and it additionally benefits from full PPF treatment costing in excess of €7,000.
Marrying blistering performance with true rarity, this commemorative edition serves as a fitting tribute to 50 years of incredible M cars.
