Texto 1:
The subject of the present work comes from Ovid's Metamorphoses. In the story, King Acrisius of Argos hears from the oracle of Delphi that his daughter, Danaë, will bear a son who will later kill him. King Acrisius imprisons Danaë in an effort to evade this prophecy. His plot is thwarted when Zeus takes the form of a shower of gold and streams into the princess's chamber, impregnating her. Perseus is soon born. Unwilling to kill Persues for fear of angering the gods, King Acrisius decides instead to send his daughter and grandson off into the sea, and they eventually wash up on the island of Seriphos.
Many years later, after slaying Medusa and rescuing Andromeda, Perseus hears of the oracle's prophecy. Hoping to escape it again, he avoids the land of Argos and instead goes to Larissa, where the Olympic games are being held. But fate proves unshakeable: Argos is also attending these Olympics and is struck in the head by Perseus's stray javelin, thereby fulfilling the prophecy. Texto da Bonhams.
