Part of the Wellborn Museum Collection since new, this 2006 Ford GT is No. 45 of just 323 finished at the factory with the iconic Heritage Edition color package. Its combination of Heritage Blue paint with Epic Orange striping recalls the famed Gulf-Wyer livery of the John Wyer Automotive GT40 racers of the late 1960s. Indeed, if any history-making racer merited a commemorative second act by its originating company, it was certainly the GT40. In the hands of Carroll Shelby and Holman-Moody, the GT40 became a world-beater, scoring its first international win in the 1965 Daytona 24 Hours. In 1966, Ford GT40s finished 1-2-3 at Le Mans, fulfilling Henry Ford II’s personal mandate to crush Ferrari on the international stage. When Ford withdrew after the 1967 win, John Wyer and Gulf assumed the mantle, fielding a three-car team of GT40 MKs. One of those, No. 1075, famously scored the last two of four consecutive wins by GT40s in the 1968 and 1969 24 Hours of Le Mans. The second-generation Ford GT in Heritage Edition trim pays homage to the original race cars, down to the numeral 6 on white roundels worn by No. 1075 in 1968. Sold new at Town and Country Ford in Bessemer, Alabama, it has always been meticulously maintained by Wellborn museum staff, and it now presents with just 640 original miles. It is factory equipped with a supercharged 5.4L/550 HP V-8 engine (autographed by Jack Roush) and Ricardo 6-speed manual gearbox, Goodyear Eagle F1 tires on BBS forged alloy 18- and 19-inch wheels, Brembo Anti-Lock vented disc brakes with gray calipers, and a McIntosh audio system with CD player. It still wears the factory transport windshield stickers and the original tires, which have never been spun or subjected to burnouts. It is protected with a clear bra and Crystal Serum paint protection, and it comes with the Ford GT Certificate package, four window stickers, an owner's manual, car cover, battery tender and the factory brochures available when new.
