When production of the original Chevrolet Camaro ceased at the
end of the 2002 model year, most believed that was the end of the line. It was
a welcome surprise when a totally new fifth-generation Camaro was introduced
for the 2010 model year. This modern concept evolved into the new 2012 model, marking
the 45th anniversary of the Camaro.
As always, the ZL1 was the top of the line in performance and
styling, and this Black 2012 Camaro ZL1 is one of just 1,971 built. The
appearance is enhanced by a power sunroof, custom blackout package and standard
20-inch black forged aluminum 10-spoke wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. The
raised reverse hood scoop features a large ZL1 badge. The interior is leather
with suede microfiber inserts, heated power seats and contrasting red
stitching, with the package including accents on the leather-wrapped steering
wheel, shift knob and shift boot. Controls and conveniences include the alloy
pedal covers, power steering, brakes, locks, windows and mirrors. The
instrument panel features a four-pack of auxiliary gauges with boost readout,
and the floors are protected by unique ZL1 floor mats. Comfort is offered by a
dual-zone climate-control system.
The engine is an LSA 6.2L/580 HP aluminum-block supercharged
OHV V-8 with 556 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 RPM connected to a Tremec TR6060
6-speed manual transmission. The ZL1 engine also includes cast stainless steel
exhaust manifolds and an engine oil cooler, and it’s topped with a bright red
cover with LSA logo. The rear axle is equipped with a performance 3.73:1 final
drive ratio. The chassis of this Camaro ZL1 includes five-mode Performance
Traction Management and Third Generation Magnetic Ride Control suspension first
introduced on the ZL1. This ultra-high performance ZL1 Camaro with 557 miles on
the odometer will leave any owner lacking nothing in any driving situation.
