Produced
January 9, 1967
Delivered new
by Barry Chevrolet in Aledo, Illinois
Originally
conceived to facilitate commercial fleet sales, GM’s Central Office Production
Order program produced a small number of singularly unique Corvettes. A
multiple-award winner that is well known to the Corvette collector community,
this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is the only one of its kind,
specially ordered through the COPO program with Lynndale Blue paint, a red
interior and white soft top. Produced January 9, 1967, and delivered new by
Barry Chevrolet in Aledo, Illinois, this midyear Corvette COPO convertible is
documented in part with the original tank sticker, showing COPO/F&SO No. S262D
and interestingly, listing permission to paint the car “Elkhart Blue with Red
trim” while also showing “029777AA Lynndale Blue” in the paint section. It has
been restored in body-off fashion to superb condition, attracting a plethora of
awards that includes Bloomington Gold Certification and an invitation to the
Bloomington Gold Special Collection in 2017. It has also earned multiple NCRS
certifications, National Council of Corvette Clubs First Place in Class and
Best of Show, and the Golden Award of Excellence from the Vintage Motor Car
Club of America. In addition to its matching-numbers L79 327/350 HP small-block
V-8 engine, Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed manual transmission and 3.70:1
Positraction rear end, the car is well equipped with A01 Soft Ray-tinted glass,
U69 AM/FM radio, A85 shoulder belts, stainless-steel caliper sleeves,
stainless-steel exhaust and N36 telescopic steering column. Red stripe radial
tires on bolt-on finned aluminum wheels complete the classic midyear look.
Accompanied by the tank sticker and Protect-O-Plate, this one-of-one COPO
convertible is also documented with Bloomington Gold and NCRS certificates, a
VMCCA certificate, NCRS Shipping Data Report and a Bloomington Gold
confirmation document. It features most all factory-correct type components
including the spare tire, jack, jack tools, clear floor mats, seat belts,
washer system, shifter, shielding, air cleaner, gas door assembly, glovebox
door and T-3 headlights.
