Cadillac Series 62 Convertible 1958, Estados Unidos

For 1958, Cadillac enhanced the design of its entire lineup,
including the Series 62. Subtle changes made immense differences, the most
noticeable being that of four headlights up front instead of only two.
They were likely the glitziest of all the Cadillacs prior, with brightwork
measured by the ton and giving them a truly bejeweled look. The new-for-1958
cleated grille was especially adept at lending a jeweled look, and the overall
scene was absolutely surreal. While so many cars could appear pretentious or
even gaudy adorning chrome and polished stainless ornamentation, the Cadillac
exuded sophisticated elegance, like it was dressed for a black-tie affair and
accessorized by the latest designer jewelry.
This Series 62 convertible is presented in gracefully reserved
Alpine White with a blue power-operated convertible top, the exterior color
motif entirely sustained inside. Powered by a 365 CI V-8 engine fed by the
three 2-barrel “Tri-Power” carburetion system and backed by a Hydra-Matic
automatic transmission, the luxurious boulevard cruiser moves effortlessly.
Passengers revel in the comfort of beautifully padded and upholstered seating,
air conditioning that ensures hot days are kept at bay, power windows promising
easy use and a power seat allowing simple adjustments. Offered very much as
Cadillac built it, an AM radio provides the entertainment while an in-dash
clock keeps schedules in check. Rolling on Coker American Classic wide whitewall
tires wrapping chromed Cadillac Sabre wheels, the brightwork seems never ending
yet completely at home, conveying a relaxed but dignified demeanor.
This car wears it all very well and is a multiple award winner.
Cadillac began working on styling exercises for the 1957-58 models in early
1955, bringing to market many design elements seen in Motorama show cars.
Introduced in 1957, the newly styled Series 62 immediately gained admirers.
However, 1958 would see a relatively serious economic recession, which would
spell slow sales for all auto makers that year. As such, Cadillac only built
7,825 Series 62 convertibles, marking it as fairly scarce.
