Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback 1970, Estados Unidos

An unrestored, single-owner example with a scant 34,853 miles since new, this remarkable 1970 Super Cobra Jet Mach 1 is a masterclass of both period performance and preservation. It is a one-of-one as-equipped vehicle per the framed Elite Marti Report that was sold new at Worthington Motor Sales in Worthington, Ohio, and the original owner evidently went wild checking boxes on the order sheet. At the heart of this steed is its original legendary R-code 428 Cobra Jet V-8 with Ram Air which is paired to the original close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. The original owner also opted to order the Drag Pack, a $255 option that provided a 3.91-geared Traction-Lok differential and all of the pertinent Drag Pack equipment is original and intact. The Mach 1 was also factory-ordered with power steering and brakes, likely an attempt to domesticate the big-block beast.
The 1970s were definitely not remembered for subtlety in the realm of muscle car color charts, which ironically makes this cosmetically-subdued Mustang a stand apart from the herd. Of the estimated 1,371 R-code/4-speed Mach 1s produced in 1970, it is one of only 13 produced in special-order Medium Green and, of those 13, is the only one to be ordered with Medium Ivy Green clarion-knit vinyl bucket seat interior. The paint and interior are both original to the car, as are the factory sport slats and rear spoiler. Gears are manipulated via the Hurst T-handle shifter, the column-mounted Sun tachometer was installed by the original owner and it rolls on the original Mag-style hubcaps wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas tires. The level of originality that this Mach 1 presents cannot be understated with the paint, interior, engine, Drag Pack equipment, carburetor, intake, transmission, bumpers, glass, smog equipment, jack and Polyglas spare tire all being factory-installed and/or applied. Even the original selling dealer sticker is still attached to the rear bumper. In addition to the aforementioned Elite Marti Report, it is offered with the original invoice and handwritten buyer’s order, gate release, Eminger Report, a copy of the original title, period Polaroid photos and letters from Ford Motor Company to the original owner. A true vault find largely hidden from the public eye for five decades, this Mach 1 from Ben and Karen’s Collection is unrivaled in the world of unrestored.
