Introduced at the 2004 Paris Auto Show, the F430 was based on its F360 forerunner but represented a significant technological advance with such features as 50% more downforce, a steering wheel Manettino switch controlling multiple driving modes, and a new 4.3L V-8 with four cams, a flat-plane crank, F1 breathing technology and 485 HP on tap, some 90 more than the 360. A Spyder version followed close on the heels of the original F430 Berlinetta, but when favored clientele asked for yet more, Ferrari responded with the F430 Scuderia Spyder 16M, a reference to Ferrari’s 16 Formula 1 Constructor’s titles. Limited to 499 cars, the 16M’s shrieking V-8 boasted an increase to 503 HP fed through a 6-speed F1 electro-hydraulic automatic transmission, a combination that translated into hair-raising acceleration and a top speed of 196 MPH.
One of 499 produced, this limited-edition 2009 F430 Scuderia Spyder 16M was delivered new to Scottsdale Ferrari adorned in Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior with contrasting stitching, closely grouped instruments and driver controls, carbon-look under-door covers, automatic climate control and special dash plaques. Riding on Pirelli P-Zero Corsa rubber fitted to slim-spoked alloy wheels, it wears its competition heritage for all to see: Prancing Horse fender badges supplemented with special “16M Scuderia” emblems, the optional Italian flag racing livery with tri-color center stripe, CEXP Carbon Package body trim, a tuned free-flow exhaust system and 4-wheel carbon-ceramic brakes with red brake calipers. This superb limited-edition F430 shows just 1,866 miles and is offered complete with the window sticker, books and tools, car cover, air compressor, battery tender, two sets of keys and a special included iPod in a "Limited 499" box that has never been installed.
