Launched in spring of 1955, the KR200 version of the famous Messerschmitt replaced the KR175. It received an increase in displacement, and a slight increase in power. Available as a standard version, with a plexiglass bubble or as a roadster, it was again the convertible version which was the most luxurious, benefiting from a more opulent interior and additional chrome trims.
The example on offer was delivered new in Sweden in 1957 and became part of a German collection of microcars in 1997. It was at the end of 2016 that its current owner acquired it. A demanding enthusiast, he then embarked on a meticulous restoration which was completed in 2020 in a specialized Italian workshop, documented by a large set of photos. The body was stripped bare and repainted with a ruby red lacquer. The soft top has been redone with high-quality canvas, made of three layers and offering excellent resistance to light, rain and cold. The upholstery, with a nice patina, has been intentionally preserved. Finally, the mechanicals, running gear and the electrical system have also benefited from an overhaul. In order to complete this quality restoration, while retaining the original configuration, a luggage rack accommodating an equipped picnic basket was installed on the engine cover. We also noted that a period user manual is present. The new owner of this distinctive machine will not miss anything to navigate secondary roads, with a bucolic picnic spot in his sights.
