Sold new at Holman-Atkins Inc. in Amherst, New York, this
sensational, unrestored 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible has earned
virtually every significant accolade in the Corvette hobby. It has been in the hands
of just two owners since new, and its odometer reading of just 5,235 original
miles serves as testament to the care and preservation it has enjoyed over the
course of its 50-year life span. With the obvious exception of the
racing-purposed L88, this was the King of Corvettes to that time, boasting the
L71 427/435 HP tri-power big-block V-8 engine, the most powerful in the
regular-production Corvette lineup from 1967 through 1969. In this case, the
tri-power 427 was joined on the list of optional extras by a Muncie close-ratio
4-speed manual transmission, a 3.55:1 Positraction differential, transistorized
ignition, off-road exhaust, both soft top and auxiliary hardtop, power windows,
full wheel covers and redline tires, all of which are original and remain with
the car. Not surprisingly, it also retains its original and rare Corvette
Bronze paint and the original black interior, both of which, like the rest of
this extraordinary Corvette, remain in outstanding award-winning condition. The
car was awarded Bloomington Gold Certification, documenting it as being
preserved or restored to within 95 percent of “typical factory production”
condition. It then received the Bloomington Gold Survivor Award, reserved for
unrestored, original Corvettes 20 years or older that successfully complete a
24.5-mile road test, remain at least 80 percent unrestored in the four
categories of exterior, interior, under hood and chassis, and retain
reference-quality finishes; it then also received highly coveted Benchmark
Certification. Additionally, it has earned NCRS Top Flight and 5-Star Bowtie
Awards, Gold Spinner and Triple Crown honors, and was invited to, and shown in,
the Gold Circle at the 50th Anniversary Bloomington Gold in 2018. Documented
with the original invoice, retail installment contract, personal-loan notes,
warranty paperwork, GM fact sheet and owner's manual, it retains the original
keys with punchouts and the original hardtop tool, all contributing to its
singular status in the world of collector Corvettes.
