Despite the restrictions on
engine displacement imposed by GM on its various divisions in the 1960s,
someone always seemed to find a way around the constraints to produce truly
memorable muscle cars. In the Chevy realm it was Vince Piggins and his COPO
cars; Pontiac adherents could turn to dealers such as Royal and Knafel, while
Oldsmobile had a champion in the innovative George Hurst, who endowed the
already popular 442 with extra horsepower and flash to produce the famed Hurst Olds.
Using Oldsmobile’s largest engine, the 455 CI big block used in the Division’s
luxury sedans, the Hurst Olds was packed not only with 390 horses but a full
complement of optional extras as well, and Hurst sold every one it could build,
a total of almost 1,500 over 1968-69.
Documented as car number 211 of 912 built in 1969, this authentic restored 1969 Hurst Olds coupe packs a NOM 455 CI High Output V-8 engine - with the correct casting number – backed by the original matching numbers 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission and augmented with power steering and brakes. Another trademark feature of the Hurst Olds is the high-grade Black interior fitted with bucket seats and console, Hurst Dual Gate “His & Hers” shifter, factory tach and gauges and push-button radio.
