In 1955, Chevrolet’s Advance Design Pickups passed the baton
over to the Task Force series, a larger, more modernly styled truck line that
spanned through 1959. This truck is the final iteration of the generation and
has undergone a nut-and-bolt, frame-off restoration emerging in better-than-new
condition. Powered by the 283 CI V-8 engine with a 4-barrel carburetor, custom
exhaust and a Muncie 4-speed transmission, the Apache pickup is finished in
two-tone Cardinal Red and Cameo White with a matching interior. The glass,
chrome bumpers, grille, trim and polished stainless are new, and the short bed
is a Fleetside design, first introduced in 1958, with a floor of custom cut and
finished maple with stainless-steel trim. Inside, passengers will love the
original look and feel but enjoy a bench seat with new cushions and upholstery,
new headliner and carpeting. The refurbished gauges and steering wheel continue
to demonstrate the level of attention that was bestowed upon this truck. Even
the undercarriage is finished in matte black powder-coating. Riding on a
rust-free chassis with a new suspension, shocks and springs, the original-style
7.10-15 Firestone Deluxe Champion gum-dipped wide whitewall tires wrap steel
wheels with stainless-steel beauty rings and center caps. All things told, this
1959 Chevrolet Apache Pickup looks like it popped right off the pages of the
original sales brochure. The Task Force series was one of the earliest pickups
to segue between work tool and personal passenger car with its wraparound
windshield, two-tone paints, heavier use of chrome, V-8 engines, 12-volt
electrical systems and restyled interiors offering not only standard-issue
vinyl seat covers, but luxurious fabrics as well. This example, thanks to the
restoration efforts, chrome trim, cloth upholstery and attention to detail,
will offer its next owner years of enjoyment.
