Outstanding performance from the most powerful carbureted
small-block V-8 available and top-of-the-line style thrust this 1957 Chevrolet
Bel Air Convertible from the past into the present as an enduring American
classic. The convertible coupe presents well with a seasoned nut-and-bolt,
frame-off restoration that returned the Chevrolet back to factory splendor from
its two-tone silver and red interior out to the Matador Red paint accented with
the distinctive gold-anodized grille and badging that set the Bel Air apart
from the rest. Under the twin chrome-speared hood is a period-correct EB-suffix
283 CI Super Turbo Fire V-8 factory rated for 270 HP with a factory aluminum
intake manifold, solid-lifter valvetrain, high-lift camshaft, “ram's horn”
exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust and a pair of deep-breathing 4-barrel
carburetors under the signature batwing air cleaner. Both carburetors were
recently rebuilt with a fresh fuel system and gas tank for assured power
supply. The faithfully restored and highly detailed V-8 is backed by a 3-speed
manual transmission with column shifter for a flat-out top speed in excess of
100 MPH. The fuel-injected small-block Chevrolet V-8 was more powerful but had
few takers with its far higher price tag. Lowering the button power-operated
white convertible top reveals a midcentury Bel Air two-tone red and silver
interior resplendent in correct upholstery over deep-pile carpet for lavish
comfort with the top up or down. The sweeping wraparound dash is outfitted with
a clock and uncommonly rare radio-delete plate. Tinted glass keeps out unwanted
glare and makes for a filtered view of the road ahead. The Bel Air rolls on
body-color-keyed painted steel wheels dressed in full-size spinner wheel covers
and 8.00-14 BF Goodrich whitewall tires for an authentic ride and high-fashion
style.
