The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible is an all-time American classic. A runaway hit from its glitzy introduction at the 1955 GM Motorama, the Bel Air and its 150 and 210 stablemates established an exciting new image for Chevrolet. The new full-size Chevrolet’s styling broke away from the Big Three’s staid efforts at redefining the automobile in the postwar years with smooth lines, eyebrow headlight sculpting, a simple egg-crate front grille, a wraparound windshield and a refined tail-light treatment. That innovative styling was accompanied by a brilliant new 265 CI V-8 engine designed by Ed Cole and Harry Barr. Behind the new Chevrolets were the things for which the division was already highly regarded: reliable transportation offered with value, reliability and ease of maintenance, and a strong nationwide dealer network of high repute. Named after the prestigious West Los Angeles, California, neighborhood, the Bel Air occupied the top rung on a ladder that ascended from the base 150 model through the midlevel 210 and offered the engineering, styling, performance and status never before seen in a Chevrolet. A wonderful, well-optioned example, this 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible has received a comprehensive frame-off nut-and-bolt restoration and presents in superb as-new condition throughout. Its two-tone red and India Ivory paint, a combination favored by collectors, combines with a matching red and white interior featuring a traffic-light viewer, in-dash clock and below-dash tissue dispenser. A power-operated white convertible top, red-painted steel wheels, full-size wheel covers and period-correct wide whitewall tires further the sporty appearance. Full body dress includes front and rear bumper guards, and bright stone and gravel guards on the lower front fenders, side sills and fender skirts. The immaculate engine compartment is home to a 265 CI small-block with remote oil filter and dual exhaust, completing the broad list of desirable features on this beautiful Bel Air.
