The 2005-06 Ford GTs rank among the most coveted and
collectible Fords of the recent past. This 2006 model is essentially a new car
showing only 138 miles. The low-mileage sports car’s Ebony Black leather
interior still has its factory plastic protection. Of the 348 2006 Ford GTs
produced in Mark IV Red, just six were ordered like this one with the
side-stripe deleted. Assembled at Ford’s Wixom Assembly Plant on June 9, 2006,
the GT was ordered with the optional McIntosh AM/FM stereo with single CD
player, lightweight forged aluminum wheels and red-painted brake calipers.
Developed and built by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team, the 2005-06 Ford GT was a
supercar in every way, including the Eaton-supercharged 5.4L/550 HP V-8
connected to a Ricardo 6-speed transmission. The aluminum body was designed by
Camilo Pardo to recapture the magic of the original Ford GT40, the endurance
race car that brought Ford back to international racing prominence by winning
the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans. Pardo’s styling incorporated many of the
original’s signature design cues, including the hood-ducted radiator air flow,
doors that cut into the roof and functional air-intake scoops in the rear
quarters. As a specialty car, Ford GT assembly was handled through the
coordination of several companies and facilities; the body was handled by
Mayflower Vehicle Systems, partial assembly and paint was taken care of at
Saleen Special Vehicles, and drivetrain installation and final assembly
occurred at Wixom. During its two-year production, only 4,038 GTs were built by
Ford, including 2,011 for 2006. Like all Ford GTs, this 138-mile example came
from the factory with cross-drilled Brembo brakes, air conditioning, keyless
entry and power windows, locks and mirrors. Very stealthy in appearance with
the absence of Lemans stripes and side stripes, this is a very uniquely ordered
Ford GT.
