A gorgeous example of the
desirable-and-popular Model A, this Roadster retains an all-steel body, and
thanks to a comprehensive restoration and painstaking care it is an AACA
National First Prize winner. Powered by the 201 CI L-Head 4-cylinder engine
with a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission, the engine uses Champion
spark plugs. This car was previously owned by the Church family doctor, Dr.
Triplett, during noted car-collector Bruce Church’s childhood. Bruce remembered
Dr. Triplett would always enjoy a drink of white liquor while making a house
call to check on the family during his youth. The doctor made many house calls,
the good doctor that he was. When Dr. Triplett passed away, Bruce bought the
car and restored it to show condition. Interestingly, through all of his years
collecting cars, it was the only Model A Bruce owned. Finished in gray with
black fenders, green reveals and yellow striping, it features chrome bumpers,
painted wire wheels wrapped with Firestone gum-dipped blackwall tires, a
beautiful manual folding soft top, rumble seat, rear-mounted spare tire and
leather upholstery upon the seat. This is one highly detailed and exquisitely
appointed Model A, exemplary of how nicely equipped these early Fords could be.
The Model A replaced the aging Model T in 1927, despite of Henry Ford shaking
his head, disagreeing that it was a necessary move. One of the companies most
astonishing sales successes, it was first produced in October of that year, but
wasn’t released for sale until December—something about Ford and
late-model-year releases. By early 1929, 1 million Model As had been sold; by
summertime the same year, the 2-million mark had been passed. A perfect car for
an end-of-week cruise to a local watering hole with friends or family, this
Model A is certain to please. Built in a simpler time for allegedly less
serious stresses, it’s a great way to forget about today and tomorrow and just
enjoy now. Just be sure to give the white liquor a chance to wear off before
driving back home though: Doctor’s orders, you know.
