The Fontaine des Invalides was built between 1800-1804 to display the
winged Lion which Napoleon had taken as a trophy from St. Mark's Cathedral in
Venice in 1797. The statue was returned to Venice in 1815 and the rest of the
fountain was demolished in 1840.
