In 1969, Ford’s R-code Ram Air 428/335 HP Cobra Jet big-block found a new home within the engine compartment of the Torino Cobra, a new entry into the budget supercar category to compete against Plymouth Road Runners and Super Sport Chevelles. Although options were available, the Cobra was created as a stripped-down muscle car with image supplied by blackout grille, hood pins, small Cobra emblems and the tell-tale 428 Cobra Jet emblems on the standard hood scoop. Mandatory performance equipment included 4-speed transmission, 9-inch rear end, Competition Suspension, cooling package, and styled steel wheels. This Candyapple Red Torino Cobra fastback is also equipped with the optional R-code 428 engine with functional Ram-Air, black bench-seat interior, 3.50 axle ratio, power brakes and Firestone Wide Oval tires, along with Sun Super Tach mounted on the steering column. Ford produced only 14,885 Torino Cobras for 1969. Of those, 11,099 were fastbacks.
