Accolades from the AACA on a
national level can be a challenge to attain, and the car offered here, a 1934
Ford Deluxe Victoria with an all-steel body, took home a top AACA National
First Prize in 2006. Beautifully refreshed throughout, this classic early Ford
V-8 has been driven approximately 5 miles since that work was done, creating an
excellent opportunity for its next owner. Once again displaying Mr. Church’s
penchant for quality, this vehicle is a Series 40 Deluxe-trim version,
featuring an 85 HP engine. Painted gold with bare-metal and as-cast finishes
where appropriate, the 21-stud 221 CI flathead V-8 uses a downdraft carburetor
and came with an associated 3-speed transmission with floor-shift. The exterior
is beautifully covered in Coach Maroon with matched-red accent striping, and
the car was further equipped with the expandable trunk compartment. The Deluxe
designation allowed for the higher-horsepower engine and additional standard
equipment. Inside is a very nice tan mohair interior, featuring the assorted
simulated-woodgrain accents that has helped make these cars so attractive. The
rich exterior paint tone is augmented by the chrome grille and associated
headlamp bezels, chrome bumpers with bumper guards, cowl lamps, wing vents,
dual wipers, extra horn and the chrome windshield frame. Of course, the
greyhound mascot leading the car onward remains in place on the peak of the
nose. The car is now equipped with special General Jumbo spoked wheels and
tastefully executed red-painted rims. Wide whitewall tires complete the look.
Though not heavily restyled, the 1934 models were solid sellers for Ford during
the epic of the Great Depression, helping spearhead the brand’s model programs
later in the decade. With AACA-granted provenance, the unique color arrangement
and very few miles since the restoration, this Victoria is a stellar
example of Ford’s third-year V-8 program.
