The 1947 model introduced the
completely restyled and reworked Advance Design series trucks. For 1948 the
Chevrolet truck lineup boasted 109 unique models on eight different wheelbases
including this 1948 Series 3100 Chevrolet 5-window 1/2-ton pickup. The Advance
Design marked the advent of passenger-car styling and features combined with
tough truck engineering and helped make Chevrolet the number one truck from
1947-55. This Swift Red 5-window pickup recently underwent a period-correct
restoration from its signature horizontal-bar grille to finished hardwood bed.
Under the alligator hood is a 216-cubic-inch 6-cylinder Thriftmaster engine
rated for 90 horsepower at 3,300 RPM and 174 lb-ft of torque backed up by a
manual transmission with floor-mount shifter. The 6-cylinder engine featured
aluminum and steel timing gears for long life and heat-control valve for
smoother starts in cold weather. The faithfully restored engine is equipped
with the optional oil bath air cleaner, inline fuel filter and aftermarket Fram
oil filter. Finishing touches such as woven cloth-covered spark plug wires and
a cork-valve cover gasket add to the period-perfect effect. The restoration
carries through into the Advance Design interior with an authentic mix of
original parts and reproduction materials for a return to what Chevrolet touted
as the best working conditions ever offered in a commercial vehicle. Roominess
is enhanced by all-new glass including the Nu-Vue corner windows that lend the
5-window its name. The cab and bed were finished into Swift’s Red paint with
Black fenders and new chrome plating from grille to bumpers while the bed was
fitted with red oak and fastened in with stainless-steel slats and hardware.
New and true steel wheels with Chevrolet logo hubcaps and new whitewall tires
help this classic Chevrolet truck work the road in modern times.
