Chevrolet revived a hallowed name in Corvette history when it introduced the Grand Sport option package for 2010 with the purpose of filling the wide gap between the base Corvette and its high-performance stablemate, the Z06. As constituted in C5 and C6 generation Corvettes, the Z51 Performance Package had proved to be too little at too high a price for most buyers looking for more performance in the base Corvette without the ever-rising additional cost of the Z06. The Grand Sport solved that dilemma by almost perfectly splitting the difference between the two models. The GS uses a steel chassis as wide as the Z06’s fitted with Z06 tires, ABS-assisted disc brakes and speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering, yet its suspension was recalibrated to a softer setting for a more comfortable overall ride. The GS also sported special wider bodywork with unique front-fender vents and a front splitter and rear spoiler also derived from the Z06, and its hand-built LS3 6.2L/430 HP V-8 employs dry-sump lubrication for reliable track use. This 2012 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible was delivered new to McDorman Chevrolet and has been carefully preserved in the Bob McDorman Collection with only 3 delivery-miles since new. It is one of just 2,201 produced with the Chevrolet Centennial Special Edition Package, which included Carbon Flash Metallic Black paint with Satin Black stripes, Satin Black wheels with Centennial center caps, red brake calipers and Centennial badges. Its special Ebony interior is decorated with red accent stitching, and the interior also features suede seat, steering wheel, shifter and armrest accents. Joining this car’s dual-mode performance exhaust, Magnetic Select Ride Control and 6-speed paddle-shift automatic are power windows, locks, top and heated sport seats, the Memory Package, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, navigation, a head-up display and Bose 9-speaker premium audio with Bluetooth connectivity.
