A multiple winner of the
Corvette hobby’s most prestigious awards, this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting
Ray coupe embodies all the qualities that made the final rendition of the
mid-year series a perennial classic. In 1967, there was nothing else on the
road like the big-block Corvette to send enthusiasts into the throes of
ecstasy. The Mark IV engine made its Corvette debut in 1965 in the form of the
396 CI L78, a high-compression brute packing forged internals, a high-duration,
high-lift mechanical-lifter camshaft and single Holley 4-barrel carburetor the
factory cheekily underrated at 425 HP. After punching out displacement to 427
CI for 1966, engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov rolled out his production big-block
masterpiece in 1967: the sensational L71. Employing the same forged rotating
assembly, 11.0:1 compression, rectangular-port heads and solid-lifter cam, the
L71 featured an elegantly designed triple Holley 2-barrel arrangement with a
vacuum-operated linkage system that opened the carburetors in progressive
fashion to produce exhilarating and unceasing acceleration through to its 6,500
RPM redline. This highly decorated 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray coupe
represents the purest distillation of Tri-Power performance in a documented
four-owner example that was sold new at Red River Motor Co, Inc., in Bossier
City, Louisiana, and remained in the Pelican State until 2007. Finished in the
beautiful pairing of Marina Blue with a bright blue interior, this factory
side-exhaust car incorporates a 4-speed manual transmission and 3.36:1
Positraction rear end, transistorized ignition, AM/FM radio, Soft Ray-tinted
windshield and redline tires on Rally wheels. A frame-off restoration has
earned it multiple NCRS Top Flight Awards and the Chevy Vettefest Gold Spinner
Award. The NCRS Performance Verification and Duntov Mark of Excellence Awards
add further luster to this Corvette’s considerable credentials, with
documentation that includes the Protect-O-Plate and tank sticker.
