One of the most anticipated
Vipers ever produced, the GTS Coupe was introduced in 1996 after many months of
introductions, showings and basically well-planned teases by the marketing
department at Dodge. Still one of the most iconic vehicles ever to be produced,
the GTS was hit for so many reasons, not the least of which was the styling
cues to the Shelby Daytona Coupe of the 1960s. In 1996, the first year of GTS
production, a mere 1,166 were produced. This rare vehicle has covered a mere
315 miles from new and was originally sold at Stew Hansen’s Dodge City in Des
Moines, Iowa. The famed and fabled 8.0L/450 HP V-10 engine—fed by multi-port
fuel injection and mated to a 6-speed manual—puts power to the rear wheels. The
490 lb-ft of torque helps spin the rubber through a limited-slip differential
with virtually no effort. When the Viper was first introduced in 1992, many
likened it to the Shelby Cobras because of its raw power, lack of creature
comforts, race-bred lineage and its raw driving experience. Equipped with power
steering, huge 4-wheel power disc brakes, A-arm and coil-spring suspension,
massively wide tires and a huge dose of racing performance equipment on the
chassis, Vipers handled like few other cars and were brilliant on the track.
When GTS emerged, the psyche of car enthusiasts went wild again, as here was a
modern car that gently mimicked a mythical racing car from days gone by, its
Double Bubble roofline, swept rear end and aerodynamic nose recalling past
racing successes. This Viper GTS has stupendously low miles and is presented in
the signature livery of Viper Blue with white racing stripes. Rolling on chrome
5-spoke wheels, the car also boasts its original window sticker, order form,
pre-delivery checklist, books and manuals, copy of the previous bill of sale
and odometer statement. Accompanied with an extra set of keys, a protective bra
and car cover, this Viper GTS is one fine machine.
