The color purple was one of
legend in the late 1960s-early 1970s Chrysler heritage. The company settled on
the Plum Crazy paint code for Dodge and In-Violet for Plymouth, both coded as
an extra cost High-Impact color under FC7. In the previous offering, we
introduced a 1971 Plymouth built up to Hemi Cuda specs. Here is its near-twin,
a tri-color tribute also set up with a Hemi driveline and again being offered
at no reserve. Of course, under the hood is a 426/425 HP Chrysler Hemi engine,
the competition-designed street monster dressed up in orange with twin 4-barrel
carbs and OEM-configured accessories including electronic ignition. Topping it
is the Shaker hood scoop, painted in argent silver with “hemicuda” chrome
callouts. Backed by a 4-speed transmission and proper Dana 60 Sure Grip rear
housing, this was the way to roll if street cred was the goal. Power front disc
brakes are part of this car as well. Inside is a beautiful white vinyl
interior, complete with center console, AM radio, Hurst Pistol Grip floor
shifter, high-backed front bucket seats and Rallye dash featuring the 150 MPH
speedometer and tachometer. Dressed for success outside includes the billboard
graphics with HEMI callout lettering, front lip and rear Go-Wing spoilers,
rear-window louvers, hood pins, drip-rail and wheel-well trim, and road lamps.
The crowning touch on this car are Rallye wheels with full trim and Goodyear
Polyglas GT F60-15 tires. Starting with its restoration by Highland Automotive
in Highland, New York, in 2002, this tribute to the Hemi era sports some of the
highest-demand options to be found in the 1971 Plymouth literature. However,
unlike many originals whose sheer value can make them difficult to enjoy as
automobiles, this muscle car is ready for you to fire up and rumble out to
maintain the heritage that has made the Mopar name so synonymous with this era.
