Viper enthusiasts will
appreciate all the desirable features and assets of this rare and pristine 2000
GTS ACR coupe, which at just 833 original miles is one of the most
well-preserved examples extant. It is also one of the rarest, being one of only
218 ACR versions produced in 2000 and one of only 39 produced with Viper Black
paint. Dodge engineers had raised the output of the venomous Viper from 400 to
450 HP in 1996, but when that proved insufficient in the face of competition
from Ford’s Mustang and Chevrolet’s Corvette, the division trotted out an even
meaner Viper in 1999 in the form of the GTS ACR coupe, the moniker referring to
American Club Racer and underlining the new car’s mission as the ultimate
American track weapon. A comprehensive exercise in re-engineering, the GTS
ACR’s all-aluminum, sequentially fuel injected 8.0L V-10 engine featured
high-flow K&N intake filters for an increase from 450 to 460 HP and a
commensurately noticeable boost in torque, making acceleration even more
formidable than before. The Viper’s “basso profundo” side exhaust remained
along with all-independent suspension, but the latter was tuned up with
power-assisted Brembo ventilated disc brakes, extra-stiff Hyperco springs and
adjustable Koni racing shocks. The ACR retained the Viper's standard 35-series
front and 30-series rear Michelin Pilots, but was upgraded with one-piece
18-inch BBS forged-aluminum wheels. Beyond the resulting improved handling,
those modifications also shaved 14 pounds. Adding to the charms of the
all-encompassing Competition Group package (with its hefty $10,000 price tag)
in the 2000 ACR coupe offered here, its air conditioning, radio and fog lamps
were also factory deletes. Shipped new to De Micco Motors, Inc., in Kingston,
New York, this fabulous and rare example of the ultimate 2000 Viper comes with
the window sticker, Viper Club of America brochure and extra keys.
