With curvaceous beauty, the
1971 Cuda was a car that might have been too much for some buyers, but this is
the model that defines the finale of the muscle-car era. The beneficiary of a
professional rotisserie restoration, this factory billboard Cuda still has its
matching-numbers 340 CI powerplant between the front frame rails, and it will
certainly turn heads wherever it goes. The ’71 Barracudas were noted for their
unique styling components: the cheese-grater grille design and chrome
front-fender “gill” trim, four headlamps, optional billboard graphics and
numerous optional offerings. As noted, this car was powered by the durable
Chrysler 340 CI 4-barrel engine, a choice for those buyers who wanted to cut
corners without the weight of a massive big-block up front. This example has
the twin-opening air cleaner with a 340 engine pie-pan callout, cast exhaust
manifolds and Chrysler electronic ignition, and it received a 275 HP rating for
this model year. This is backed up by the 727 TorqueFlite automatic
transmission, and the car came with a scarce column-shift package. Dual exhaust
exits from the rear, and this car is equipped with power steering and power
front disc brakes. Outside, the body is covered in factory code EL5 Bahama
Yellow, a not-often-seen color on any Cuda model, and it also sports the big
billboard graphics in black with 340 callout lettering. Inside is the black
vinyl bucket-seat interior and four-pod dash design with both tach and clock
units, AM radio, driver-side remote mirror and wood-grain trim accents.
Exterior options include the sport hood with factory tie downs, rear-deck
Go-Wing spoiler, fog lamps, roof drip-rail moldings and valance-exit chrome
exhaust tips. Riding on Rallye wheels with Goodyear Polyglas tires, there is
even a full-size spare in the trunk. This Mopar, highly optioned and quite
impressive from every angle, is not for the shy owner.
